Today we are diving deep into another fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23: PEACE. Peace is a fruit we all desire, both for the world around us and for our own souls.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

In this episode, Jen and AJ share what peace means in a biblical stance, the definition of peace, what they’ve learned from studying about peace in the scriptures, and how we can truly have peace… and MUCH MORE!

When you think of peace, you may think of quietness, rest, tranquility and security.

Biblical peace is not really  what we typically think of, however. This is why it's really important that we as Christians comprehend it, so we can understand this fruit of peace and what it actually means.

The Greek word “Eirēnē” for peace actually means “to tie together into a whole”.

God's gift of peace = wholeness. So what does it mean to be at peace?

To live in wholeness with God.

Wholeness. Not necessarily safety or security.

Thomas Watson said: “Safety consists not of the absence of danger, but the presence of God”.

We can't explain this kind of peace because it is divine. We're not capable of having it humanly speaking. It only comes through the Spirit of God, but He grants it to us as part of our inheritance in Christ.

If you have never experienced the peace that only comes from God, then lean into Him, understand what He did for you through Christ.

One man, Horacio Spafford, understood God’s peace in the midst of a raging storm. He penned these words in 1873 after the death of his daughters in a shipwreck.

When peace like a river attendeth my way,

when sorrows like sea billows roll;

whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,

"It is well, it is well with my soul."

When we think of “peace is like a river”,  we think of a calm river, but when you really look deeper, rivers are always moving. Even a calm river can become very rough.

Life is like that river, it's very rarely still, but we can still have that wholeness in spite of however the river of our lives may be looking at any given time.

Paul's instruction to us in Philippians 4:6-7 is super practical when it comes to experiencing peace:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

There's no formula to the Christian life. But instead of worrying, we CAN turn to God in prayer. We can present those needs to Him. It's an everyday activity. Pray with your worries,  anxieties, trials or pains in life.

And remember: Peace is our inheritance from the one named Prince of Peace.
