In this episode, we’re getting real about two incredible aspects of God’s character that shape everything about our lives: His love and His mercy. These aren’t just feel-good concepts—they’re life-changing truths that help us understand who God is, how He works, and how we can reflect His heart in our daily lives.
Oh, and because we can’t help ourselves, there’s also a fun little chat about ginger tea, surprise Georgia snow days, and the never-ending coffee vs. tea debate. (Spoiler: we’re still firmly divided.)
Here’s what we’re talking about:
God’s Love: More Than a Feeling
- Did you know that God doesn’t just show love—He is love? We dive into what that really means with verses like 1 John 4:8 and John 3:16.
- AJ shared how God’s love isn’t based on what we do or don’t do—it flows straight from His perfect nature. Isn’t that the best news ever?
- We also got real about how human love often falls short but can still point us to God’s perfect, unconditional love.
God’s Mercy: A Fresh Start Every Morning
- Mercy is one of those words we hear a lot, but do we really get it? AJ and Jen break it down as God withholding the judgment we deserve—and pairing it with His grace, which gives us blessings we could never earn. Mind-blowing, right?
- We talked about Lamentations 3:22-23: “His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” What a beautiful reminder that no matter how much we mess up, God’s mercy is always there.
- One of our favorite moments was unpacking the story in Exodus 33, where God reveals His glory to Moses by showing His goodness, grace, and mercy.
What This Means for You and Me
- AJ reminded us that understanding God’s love and mercy changes how we see everything—God, ourselves, and the people around us.
- Jen shared some practical ways these truths help us love others better, even when relationships get messy.
- And we encouraged each other (and you!) to use life’s disappointments and longings as reminders to turn to God, the only one who truly satisfies.
Key Scriptures We Loved:
- 1 John 4:8 – “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
- John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
- Lamentations 3:22-23 – “His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.”
Your Takeaway Challenge
This week, take a few quiet moments to reflect on how you’ve experienced God’s love and mercy in your life. Then ask yourself: how can you share those attributes with others?
