Episode 65 - Experience transformation through praying the promises of the cross

Has there been a time in your life when you knew in your head that God loved you, but you didn't feel it? Have you ever asked,  “God, do you really care? Do you really understand?”

There are times for all of us when we know in our heads the Sunday school answer: God loves us. But, in our hearts, we kinda question that.

In today’s episode, we share some great news: There are things we can do to bridge that gap between our head and our heart!

Praying promises of God in particular is a way to bridge the gap between the head knowledge and what we experience emotionally in our hearts.

God desires us to know completely in body, soul, and spirit, which includes our emotions, His love. It means that we can foster our emotional health with God's truth.

And, it doesn't require anything but you and the promises.

Back in episode 32, AJ shared something that happened in her life that made her feel like she wasn’t enough. It caused her to struggle with feeling loved and deficient,  like there was something wrong with her. In this episode, she shares how a few years ago, she came across the verse in 2 Corinthians 1:20 that says all the promises of God are yes in Christ Jesus.  And why did that stand out to her?

Because the rest of the verse says by which we also give our “amen” to those promises. She never considered her role in giving an amen to the promises of God!!

She had always known God's promises are powerful, but she had never intentionally given a “yes, this is true. I affirm this in my life” in a deliberate and intentional manner.

That's when AJ decided that she needed to be intentional about it, and she didn't want to set something up where she would fail at it, so she set a time limit of 40 days to intentionally read, pray, and affirm ONE promise of God from the Word a day.

She began to notice that over time,  internally, there was a major shift. For example, when she started to feel condemned by her failures, she would immediately begin to remember God is the one who justifies her. There's no condemnation in Christ.

All of those promises that she had been meditating on began to shape her responses and help her get to a godly response more quickly. Over the period of 40 days, she began to see massive shifts in her own thinking about herself, about how God saw her, and that radically affected her emotions.

Today’s episode is about AJ’s testimony of the power of God's Word and the power of standing on those promises and how it does transform you. We are really able to understand who we are in Christ because of His word.

She has continued this particular challenge every year since then because it is so powerful. There's something powerful about the promises of God. The promises of the cross and around the person of Jesus Christ in particular are very special because these are ones that we as believers in Christ Jesus can assuredly know that we can claim.

We can be strengthened in our faith and we can give God glory because of what he did on the cross. These are what we call the promises of the cross. There's no official name, this is what we have dubbed them, but this is our way of referring to the promises related to the gospel and the fact that God sent his son to die on a cross.

We invite you to take a fresh look at them. Cultivate your relationship with the Lord, your intimacy with him, your understanding of the person of Christ. It will improve your prayer life and bring healing to your emotions if your emotions are out of whack as well.

The best thing that we can do is to focus on the very one who gave us life and to focus on the one who is in control of all of it and is sovereign over all of it. And no matter where you are in your walk with Him, whether you're just curious as to what we're talking about, or you've been a believer for 50 years, no matter where you are in your theology, these words of God, these promises are true and they are true for you if you are believing in that.
